Excited to attend #GHC23 in person this year! Lots of thank to my employer Liberty Mutual for the opportunity to attend. A couple highlight of my day 1: - My favorite Keynote speech is Tiffany Yu's talks on promoting accessibility, that focusing on accessibility makes user experience better for everyone with example such as invention of speech-to-text. It's also very powerful incorporating her personal experience into her message - Unleash the power of serverless, an Anomaly Detection ML use case: I was curious at first because Datadog has anomaly detection algorithm for monitoring strategy (which I experimented heavily, for a while) - but the session is more about benefit of implementing machine learning model with server-less system such as Lambda, pro & con. It helps me understanding better the power of server-less computing and also the challenges that machine learning faces. - Shine On, Sisters: How to Talk about your Wins Without Fear: practical guideline for self promotion and writing personal bios. Definitely helpful for updating Linkedin bio or for future networking introduction. - visited UMass Amherst (my alma mater!) booth with my #Hack(H)er413 bag! - stopped by Boston University booth and get my university swag (currently attending MET CS program part-time) Lastly, I have met the famous Duo from Duolingo and take a photo with Duo on my 1457 days strike! (it's like a celebrity sighting :D ) (Maybe Limu Emu next time? ;)

When does voting mean something? To hold space for someone is an essential part of expansion. To retract is to block the possibilities that are shared with you or someone you adore. I write this with an awestruck experience that I have received while watching Amanda Slavin create an incredible project over the last 2 years. What is education? Or better yet, what is education when seen from a personal / individual lens. The more the world connects through social media and the study of human behavior and mental states, the more we come to realize that there is no one way fits all. I’m a neurodiverse person, struggling daily to follow mundane tasks for most, yet they slip through my lacking executive functions more then I would like to admit. My #adhd made learning in grade and high school very difficult without me or my teachers really grasping the severity of my unique and personal style of learning. The support in school, for me, was regrettably not there. Watching and participating in what Amanda is creating with learningfrequency.com, I would have had, essentially, a different life path. Amanda is a founder, a female founder who works 9 times harder than I believe to be humanly possible. She holds true to what she believes and continues to amaze so many with her commitment to her Web3 vision of education. She is up for a brilliant opportunity with Open Campus. This could be what is needed to move her project into full momentum. I wanted to make this post when I complete my graduation. But thanks to kids, I am trying to celebrate the processes than the outcomes , so I thought I'll write while I'm yet to graduate and have enough experiences to write about the course. I'll confess a bit of hypocrisy here, I am doing this when I'm almost certain I'll graduate. Well, it's always a pursuit, isn't it ? I'm 9/10 courses done and completed the perceived exit barrier of OMSCS - Graduate Algorithms . I've one more to go to complete the 10/10 courses needed to graduate. After disastrous attempts ( yes, it is plural and not singular) at doing an MBA, it is satisfying to be close to the finishing line with MS. There are a lot of good articles in the internet about OMSCS from Georgia Tech. The intent of this post is to just rub off the inspiration I got from Nishant Sharma onto someone else. If some of the below points resonate with you , OMSCS may be a good option to explore. 1) Formal learning of computer science. 2) Willingness to subject yourself to the rigor. 3) Willingness to get into details. 4) A bit of greediness towards grades. See, I'm not lying :) 5) Heck !, I know just enough about it, I feel for it and want do it. It was 5) for me. It was also a means to satisfy my need for doing something for myself when I chose to take a break for a couple of years from work and spend time with family as well as have time for course. I had completed two papers while I was still working just to be sure my thoughts weren't playing tricks on me. We all are used to "what at the end of it" ? The least you get is "knowledge" but there is a lot more that you could pick up along the way. The joy of learning, learning how to learn , rekindle the curiosity to learn, witness the sincerity and motivation with which some fellow students learn and some professors and teaching staff teach ( Prof. Umakishore Ramachandran( Advanced OS ), Prof. Gerandy Brito and Rocko Graziano ( Grad. Algo ) , Prof. Santosh Pande ( Compilers ) , Prof. Ada Gavrilovska ( Distributed Computing ) to name a few ). And importantly , some good friends if you choose to study in groups ( Yes, Graduate Algorithms could do this to you, even though it is an online program ). Thanks Harsha Pritvisree for supporting and putting up with me through all these unsettling experiences. I'll promise, it doesn't stop here ;-). Do check out OMSCS from Georgia Tech if you are sitting on the fence and thinking about taking the plunge. It's reasonably priced as well.
